Diary of an Event Consultancy Start Up – Week 7

A big part of what we do at GMG relates to tech. As recently as 10 years ago your average event would require no more than a few microphones and a big enough PA. Yet the march of technology has in the past decade given us more scope than ever to be clever, creative and innovative in producing slick, professional, memorable events.

Nearly everyone has a smartphone these days, and earlier this week we attended a webinar looking at how that can be used to enhance what we do. This sort of thing. If people are going to mess about with their phones when they're supposed to be listening anyway, then why not have them interact with your content? Schedules, maps, live polling, Q+As, additional content…there's no real limit to what you can do, and the great thing about that one in particular is that it runs through a browser so doesn't require any app stores or transactions, and can even be accessed offline.

It might sound like we're on their payroll here but that's not the case; the main point is that we were pretty excited by what we saw, and even more excited to roll it out as part of our own services, including in-house support. Just another way in which we can work to soup up your brand.

Speaking of soup (how's that for a segue?), remember last week we were talking about free lunches? Well this week we met up with The Event Hire Company, a lovely bunch who provide event furniture hire. Having somehow gotten onto the subject of soup during a conversation on Twitter, we decided to take them a can of their favourite, which they seemed pretty pleased with. So there we go, there IS such a thing as a free lunch after all.
